In June, WWDC 2020 will excite us with changes and new features to be included in the latest Apple products. Let’s see what the rumours have to say about the iPad Pro thus far and if we will see it at WWDC 2020 or maybe earlier.

Design

Don’t get too excited about exterior changes as rumours suggest the 2018 design will stay more or less the same. It is a modern design that still attracts your attention at first glance.

Camera System

One big exterior change though could be the camera system. Three cameras sounded good on the iPhone 11 Pro, so why not use that same system on the iPad Pro?

The iPad Pro is aimed at amongst others, professional graphic designers, photographers and video editors. Putting the advanced three-camera technology directly in the iPad Pro will enable users to quickly capture content on the fly. The advantage of the bigger case is that Apple could fit a bigger sensor inside the iPad Pro body than in the iPhone, which will improve the overall quality and reduce noise on the footage. I’m not sure if Apple will do this, but it will definitely be an improvement for the same camera system.

Another rumour is the addition of a new 3-D time-of-flight sensor to improve depth perception as well as augmented reality.

Processor

Apple has a system naming their processors. The iPhone usually receives the number i.e. A12 and the iPad will have the A12X.

In the case of the latest iPads, the Air has the A12 and the iPad Pro has the A12X. The iPhone 11 and 11 Pro both have the latest A13 chip so the logical step would be to go for the A13X, but with Apple moving the iPad Pro heavily in the Pro direction, they may just surprise us with a brand new processor for the iPad Pro.

Will the next iPad Pro have the A13X or A14? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Smart Keyboard

Currently, the Smart Keyboard has fabric in and out as well as on the keys. One feature is missing though, one practical thing that would give the iPad Pro an even more pro feeling. It will be a magical experience. You can read all about it in my article or about the Smart Keyboard rumours.

5G

On the Apple front, 5G is still a vague topic. No one knows whether we will even see 5G in this year’s iPhones, though Apple would miss the bus completely if they don’t implement it.

Currently, the world is not buzzing about 5G, but when that one app or website needs it, Apple will be far behind if they have to wait a year to have it implemented in their next iPhone with their yearly release schedule.

The question now is whether they will implement it in the iPad Pro before implementing it in the iPhone. Feel free to share your opinion in the comments below.

Release Date

Our trustworthy Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the iPad Pro launch may be in the first half of 2020, but he can’t say for sure.

Should Apple follow previous year’s routines, we could see it on the stage in a March event, which is also rumoured to be the launch time for the iPhone SE2 or iPhone 9. Read my article on what we know so far about this possible new product.

Though WWDC focuses more on software development, we might see the release of the iPad Pro there as well.

Pricing

The iPad Pro hasn’t seen a good refresh in a while which could mean that this year we could see some substantial upgrades that could have an effect on the price, but nothing is for sure.

Closing

According to the rumours so far, it doesn’t look like we are going to see a big overhaul this year, but the internals will definitely receive some attention, the camera system could expand and the Smart Keyboard may also have a welcome change.
