If you live in Iceland and are using your Apple Watch’s heart rate monitor continuously to check for irregular heart rhythm, you need to update to watchOS 6.1.3 immediately.

Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification

Heart rhythm problems (heart arrhythmias) occur when the electrical impulses that coordinate your heartbeats don’t work properly, causing your heart to beat too fast, too slow or irregularly

Mayo Clinic

The Apple Watch Series 1 and newer can detect irregular heart rhythm and sends you a notification if it does. It uses the optical heart rate sensor and sends a notification if, during a 65-minute window, five irregular rhythms were detected.

The update contains a fix that inhibited irregular heart rhythm notifications for Apple Watch Series 4 users in Iceland.

Other small bug fixes and improvements were also made but we don’t have any details on that. It’s typical Apple talk for updates that have no visual differences or noticeable improvements and are focused on background tasks.

watchOS 6.1.3 is compatible with Apple Watch Series 1 and newer with an iPhone running iOS 13. If you are still on iOS 12 on your iPhone, watchOS 5.3.5 is also available for Series 1 and newer with the same fixes and improvements

watchOS 6.2

It is currently in beta phase and was released on the 5th of February 2020.

Apple released the Apple Watch App Store with watchOS 6 to ease app downloads to the Apple Watch. Users are now able to download apps directly on their Watch without using an iPhone.

The biggest change in watchOS 6.2 that we know so far is in the Watch App Store. In-app purchases are coming directly to the Apple Watch.

There is no clear indication when watchOS 6.2 will be released to the public, but with it being a feature update, there is a big chance that Apple will hold it back to talk about it at its rumoured media event in March 2020. Read my article on this event.

How to Download

Head over to the Watch App on your iPhone, select General and Software Update. Make sure your Watch has 50% battery power, is on its charger and connected to your iPhone via WiFi.

Closing

If you live in Iceland and need the Apple Watch to monitor your heart rhythm, this update is critical to ensure you receive a notification if something may be wrong.

Though not a major update, it’s always good to stay up to date with the latest operating systems to ensure you have the newest security updates and performance improvements.
