Whaaat?

The powerful 2019 Mac Pro tower can now be upgraded to an astonishing 8TB of flash storage. This upgrade will be welcome in the video editing and vlogging world. iJustine tweeted:

She uploaded an 18m47s video of her Mac Pro and XDR Display unboxing and the above tweet was the size of the RAW files of that video, shot in 8K. The 8TB will still not be enough to edit the whole video in 8K natively on the Mac Pro, but it will definitely come in handy when editing shorter videos in 4K or less.

16″ MacBook Pro

The newest edition to the MacBook Pro range is the 16″, announced on the 13th of November 2019. Inside, the entry-level model features a 9th Gen 6-Core 2.6GHz Intel CPU, 16GB 2666MHz DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD Storage, an AMD Radeon Pro 5300M graphics card, a Retina Display with True Tone, a Touch Bar and Touch ID.

Comparison

16″ MacBook Pro Price

If you buy the 16″ MacBook Pro now, you will pay R43,299 at Digicape and R43,999 at iStore. In the USA it will cost you $2,399.

8TB Upgrade

The upgrade to 8TB storage for the Mac Pro will cost you roughly R46,800 in South Africa – when an estimate import TAX is taken into account. The precise conversion is R37,055.20* excluding import TAX. In the USA the upgrade will cost you $2,600.

Conclusion

It’s scary to think how the Pro gear is also divided into different tiers, having a storage upgrade for a pro workstation which cost more than a complete portable workstation. Times sure are changing.
