Tired of the hassle from misplacing your keys, wallet or handbag? If the rumours are true, you will soon have the convenience of finding it just like finding your iPhone, with the Apple AirTags.

The Rumour

This rumour has been around since last year April and is now starting to look like a reality. MacRumors has uncovered evidence of an Items tab in the Find My app that was redesigned to combine Find My Friends and Find My iPhone. This could mean that the Apple AirTags is on its way.

How Will It Work

The tag will be small enough to insert in or attach to your personal belongings like wallets, purses, keys, backpacks, handbags etc.

Using your iCloud account, every tag will be linked to you digitally. Our trusted Apple rumour prophet Ming-Chi Kuo thinks the tags will be found with better accuracy due to the rumoured built-in Ultra Wideband support. This method performs better than WiFi and Bluetooth LE.

You will be notified when you move out of the Apple AirTags’s range to remind you to take whichever belonging the tag is attached to. Rumours also suggest that you will be able to “ping” an AirTag like you ping your iPhone from your Apple Watch.

There will also be the option to exclude specific locations where an item is “allowed” to stay behind and not receive notifications when you move out of its range. Lastly, you will be able to share each AirTag’s location with friends via the Find My app.

Some code in the latest releases of iOS 13 hints at a replaceable battery to be fitted in the AirTag.

How Will It Look

With not a lot to go on, we think that the device will be circular with an Apple logo engraved in or printed on it. MacRumors discovered the image below in the coding of an iOS 13 beta version. It is not certain whether this is the final design of the Apple AirTags and whether this image is just a placeholder for the time being.

Release Date

AirTags has been in the rumours lane for almost a year. The latest rumoured launch date is during the first half of 2020. It will probably be late in March 2020 if Apple sticks to their regular launch schedule.

Closing

The Apple AirTags could be a great addition to anyone prone to forgetting valuable or important items, especially with the notification feature that will immediately alert you when you are too far away from the AitTag. Keep visiting to stay up to date on the latest rumours.
