Announced on September 4th 2019, available in April 2020, just in time for the Olympics, Nikon had a plan for this sport-focussed monster.

Autofocus

The big talk of the town, especially in sports photography, is autofocus. If the moment is gone and you missed that shot, oops is not going to help you explain to your boss why you missed the shot.

Nikon wants to spare you that embarrassment and overhauled the autofocus system used in the D6. They moved away from the previously used 153-point array to a 105-point all cross-type system where you are able to select any point independently.

The D6 vow to a denser layout than the D5 and incorporated a triple sensor arrangement. Group AF mode also received some attention and now offers various arrangements according to the subject’s movements and the scenario you have in front of you.

Video

It’s forgoer, the D5, was the first DSLR from Nikon able to record high-definition video in 4K. The D6 carries the torch forward. Just keep in mind that the D6 was designed for stills and its engineering was not focussed on video.

It is capable of 4K/30p video with the choice to record in MP4 as well. It is a handy feature if you need to get that video out quickly and don’t want to worry about compatibility.
