Apple initiated a free replacement plan for their official Smart Battery Cases after discovering some problems.
The Problems
Problems occurred with Smart Battery Cases made for Apple’s iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, produced between January of 2019 and October 2019. Luckily there are no dangers associated with the problems found in the cases.
These problems include the case not charging or charging discontinuously when plugged in as well as the iPhone charging or charging discontinuously when plugged into the case.
Apply for Replacement
You need to contact an Apple Authorised Reseller or Service Provider.
In South Africa, myiStore confirmed that they do offer replacements for eligible Smart Battery Cases. The case needs to be booked in at an iStore and will be assessed. If the case qualifies for the replacement, they will contact Apple directly and request a new case. Visit their support page and make a booking for Tech Support.
Note: this replacement will not extend an iCare warranty.
Digicape in South Africa just responded by saying that if you have a case showing the symptoms as mentioned earlier, you should take it to their Service Center to be assessed by a technician and they will inform you whether they will replace it or not.
If you reside in America, you will have to look for an Apple Authorised Service Provider or make an appointment at your closest Apple Retail Store.
Closing
Apple has had some faults like this slip into iPhones in the past and has addressed it in the exact same manner. They care about their customers and if there was a problem from their side, they will always rectify it. No company or product is perfect, but some companies deserve more respect for admitting and correcting their mistakes.
