With the recent launch of AMD’s Radeon RX 5600 XT, could Nvidia be fighting back to sell more RTX 2060’s? The recent price drop surely suggests a combat attitude from Nvidia’s side. Read my article on the launch of the Radeon RX 5600 XT.
Card in Question
Wccftech reported the price drop of the EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 KO when visiting the EVGA booth at CES 2020.
Price Drop
Nvidia lowered the price of their RTX 2060 with about 15%, from $349 (R4,926.59*) to $299 (R4,220.77*).
Rand value excludes import and other taxes.
Price War
While nothing is certain, one explanation for the price drop could certainly be Nvidia’s effort to boost sales of their RTX 2060.
The fact that EVGA lowered their prices doesn’t mean other manufacturers selling the RTX 2060 will follow, but if they want to stay in the game, a reduction is inevitable.
Comparison
In the table below, the Nvidia RTX 2060 Founders Edition is compared with the Radeon RX 5600 XT.
Spec | RTX 2060 (Founders Edition) | RX 5600 XT |
---|---|---|
Base Clock (MHz) | 1365 | 1375 |
Boost Clock (MHz) | 1680 | 1560 |
Memory | 6GB GDDR6 | 6GB GDDR6 |
Memory Interface | 192-bit | 192-bit |
Memory Bandwidth | 336 GBs | 288 GBs |
As noted in the table, the RTX has more power on paper and should outperform the Radeon. It also justifies the $20 (R282,33*) price difference.
Rand value excludes import and other taxes.
Closing
Everything in this article is just speculation and should not be taken as facts. I’ll keep monitoring the EVGA RTX 2060 KO release and do a more thorough comparison when it is officially launched.
