Attention gamers, look fast, this one might fly by in a 360th of a second. That’s right, Nvidia uncloaked its brand-new G-Sync displays to the world at CES 2020.

Background

I’m sure you have heard about the term hertz. The definition of hertz is

a unit of frequency equal to one cycle per second

Merriam-Webster Dictionary

That means that 1 hertz is once per second, 5 hertz is 5 times per second and so on. Refresh rate is the speed at which the image of a monitor changes. Your average computer monitor these days runs at 60Hz.

In computer monitor terms, it’s how smooth the image moves on the screen, whether you are playing games or scrolling through a webpage. Have a look at this website if you want to see the differences.

Nvidia’s G-Sync Monitor

The monitor was announced as an April fool’s joke last year, but this year it was made a reality.

Before the ultra-fast 360Hz monitors were released, the fastest refresh rate on a monitor was 300Hz. The 360Hz G-Sync monitors

display game frames once every 2.8ms

TechRadar

With Nvidia’s Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), the refresh rate of the display is synced with the frame rate of the GPU to ensure sleek gaming.

To get the best results, you should combine one of these displays with one of Nvidia’s RTX series GPUs.

Nvidia and ASUS

Nvidia teamed up with ASUS and developed the ASUS ROG Swift 360. The display will not be available until later in the year. Pricing will probably be available directly from ASUS when the time arrives.

There are no pricing speculations for the monitor as yet, so we will have to be patient and see what price ASUS will set on this powerful piece of tech.
