Aura showcased a Smart Strap for Apple Watch that can allegedly measure fat, water, muscle and weight for it, weight. This is all done by the use of electrodes which are built into the strap.

How does it work?

Aura alleges the Strap will measure your body composition and monitor hydration levels as well as fitness progress. Using bioimpedance to analyze your upper body, it tracks fluctuations in breathing and lung performance which is correlated with pulse readings.

Though able to allegedly evaluate the risk of heart failure the feature is practically mute, because of Apple Watch’s own capability of measuring it.

These measurements will first have to be put to the test before the broader public will buy into it.

The data is sent to the Watch using ultrasound and will work up to six months on one battery.

Aura gave the Strap the capability to sync with HealthKit and it has the same waterproof specification of the Apple Watch.

Options & Pre-orders

The Strap is available in green, grey, black and red. Pre-orders can be done from their website.

Pricing and Pre-Orders

Failed to launch in 2019, pre-orders are now open and the Strap is scheduled to launch in March 2020. The strap is priced at R1,404.42* (excluding taxes) or $99.

Closing

Measuring and interpreting health data from any device(s) not operated by professionals can be dangerous if not understood. Please use these statistics with caution and consult a professional if you have any doubts.

For those who like data, read about it as much as you can and enjoy the fact that such measurements are available on your wrist.
