Ever thought that you can’t make money from home or that it is not a real job? Well, now it may be the only place to work or job you will be able to do for a while.

Make Money From Home

  1. Teaching / Tutoring Online
  2. Offer Your Services
  3. Selling Online
  4. Develop or Learn New Skills Online
  5. Blogging / Vlogging / Live Streaming / Podcasting

1) Teaching / Tutoring Online

Just because you can not see someone, doesn’t mean you can’t still tutor them. Get in contact with the school, college or varsity students you already tutored this year and find out if they have a steady enough internet connection to be tutored on a video call.

Also, advertise yourself on social media, get in contact with prospective students and offer your tutoring services to them.

If you want to expand your reach, visit websites like Turtle Jar to sign up and get tutoring jobs across the country.

2) Offer Your Services

Freelancers, listen up. If your career allows you to work remotely without physically seeing your clients or colleagues, now is the time to advertise.

Graphic designers, for instance, have an advantage. You can arrange a voice or video call with your client, draw up designs and send it to them via email.

Marketers can also be smart during this time, by offering services to develop and drive online marketing campaigns and social media managers can join marketers in boosting these campaigns.

If you can think of any other services that can be utilised online, let me know in the comments.

3) Selling Online

Another way to make money from home is to sell online from your house. During the lockdown, you will have more time at hand and you can use it to sort through stuff in your house and find those things you will lever use again.

Even though you won’t be able to get the items to the buyer right now, you can work proactively. Start by taking pictures and think about pricing. Get it online for potential buyers to take note of it and arrange the pick-up once the lockdown is over.

Use places like Facebook’s Marketplace and OLX to sell your stuff.

4) Develop or Learn New Skills Online

The next tip will technically not help you to make money from home at this moment, (or maybe it will, depending on the profession) but will equip you with skills to do so once the lockdown has passed.

There is a multitude of online skill development courses available and some are not expensive at all.

Websites worth visiting are Udemy, Skillshare, Damelin and CityVarsity Online. Another great place to look for online courses is the university’s websites or you can find all top university online courses in one place here. They offer a lot of part-time online courses specifically designed for people who are working full-time and want to study. Alternatively, search Google with the terms “online courses” and the specific skill you want to learn.

Keep in mind that most of these courses don’t give you a formal and accredited degree, diploma or certificate, but it will show potential clients or employers that you have learned skills related to the service you want to provide or job you are applying for.

5) Blogging / Vlogging / Live Streaming / Podcasting

The fifth way I want to suggest to you to make money from home is starting or monetising a blog, vlog, live stream or podcast.

You won’t make money off the bat, but now is the best time to start because of all the free time you have.

Blog

There are a lot of ways (which I’m not going to explain in-depth right now) to start a blog. The easiest is to use a service like WordPress.com or Wix.com that supplies you with a domain and hosting as well as the framework to build the site.

You should choose a niche that you know enough about to write valuable content as well as one that attracts a lot of attention. Then use social media to share your articles and even run paid ads to promote your blog.

It can be also a good way to share your thoughts during this time you spend at home. You can also benefit from the monetisation as well as the thought of you helping others by sharing your knowledge.

Now is also the perfect time to create content as a lot of people are indoors and need intellectual stimulation and entertainment.

Vlogging and Live Streaming

YouTube is the best option for vlogging and live streaming because you don’t have a limit on storage space and videos you can upload. Just read thoroughly through all your account settings to activate features like being able to upload videos longer than 15 minutes by verifying your account with a phone number etc.

6) Bonus – Government Support

Some countries do have plans in place to assist small businesses and individuals whose services were deemed non-essential.

Laws, regulations and/or other rules may be different in your country and you should research them using your government’s official resources.

Closing

As you can see, there are a few creative ways you can utilise to make money from home. It won’t make you millions, at least not in the beginning, but it can supplement you during these uncertain times.

Stay safe and happy internetting!
